The question of whether finasteride side effects can be permanent is one of the most important — and most anxiety-provoking — questions a man considering finasteride will ask. The answer requires separating what the evidence clearly shows from what is uncertain.
What the Original Trials Showed
In the 12-month pivotal double-blind trials, sexual adverse effects (decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, ejaculation disorder) resolved in the vast majority of men who discontinued finasteride after experiencing them. Resolution was the norm, not the exception, in the controlled trial setting.
